CDC confirms COVID-19 can be transmitted through air from more than 6 feet awayslate8 May 2021 (LINK)

"Transmission events have involved the presence of an infectious person exhaling virus indoors for an extended time (more than 15 minutes and in some cases hours) leading to virus concentrations in the air space sufficient to transmit infections to people more than 6 feet away, and in some cases to people who have passed through that space soon after the infectious person left."

"This comes after months of infectious disease experts warning that the CDC and World Health Organization were focusing too much on the risk of picking COVID-19 from surfaces and emphasizing that “close contact” was needed for infection."

Concise Atlas of International GenevaKAS27 May 2021 (LINK)

"Despite being home to the United Nations second headquarters, the public often overlooks the importance of Geneva. The Concise Atlas of International Geneva 2019/2020 argues that this is unfounded, since the work of the over 45 international organisations as well as over 750 non-governmental organisations located here gives shape to a multilateral diplomacy such that scarcely exists anywhere else across the world. On the basis of key policy areas in Geneva such as global health, humanitarian aid, global trade, digitalisation, human rights or flight and migration, the atlas highlights the central importance of international Geneva for global developments and multilateralism."

The number of entry-level jobs posted in the US decreased by 68% in 2020 due to COVID-19. However, this was a continuation of a trend that began following the last recession. Graduates often don't have all the skills required to jump straight into a tech-driven knowledge economy. Higher education and employers need to provide the di literacy training needed so that more young people can find jobs.

"It includes a 2 MWh battery plant that enables all resort generators to be switched off for the first time in 50 years, resulting in cleaner air and greater savings for up to 100 residents and guests at the resort at any given time. This microgrid will also pay for itself in just five to six years due to diesel powerplant savings alone. About two-thirds of the island's diesel fuel consumption will be eliminated as a result of this project. After the system has paid for itself, the island owners will continue to save more than $700,000 on operating expenses per year in addition to the significant non-financial benefits."

UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances publishes findings on Switzerland, Colombia and Mongoliaohchr11 May 2021 (LINK)

The Committee urged the State party to conduct thorough and impartial investigations to determine whether children adopted from Sri Lanka during the 1980s and 1990s may have been victims of enforced disappearance and wrongful removal, and whether other offences, such as falsification, concealment or destruction of identity documents were committed in these cases.

It also recommended that the Swiss authorities guarantee the right to reparation to any person who has suffered from such acts.

The definition of enforced disappearance contained in Switzerland's existing Criminal Code lacks clarity, and the Committee therefore recommended that the State party review it to remove any ambiguity.

Further, the Committee expressed concern at allegations that there are regular delays in the provision of information to relatives and legal counsel of detainees during criminal investigation, as allowed by the Code of Criminal Procedure. It called on the State party to amend its national legislation to ensure its full compliance with the Convention.

The international community must be careful to avoid the mistakes made in the aftermath of the global financial crisis of 2008/09. It is crucial to maintain an expansionary macroeconomic policy stance for as long as it takes the private sector to regain its confidence to spend."
